View weather layers on the map
Use Weather Layer on the station map to overlay the latest rain radar imagery. Rain Radar is the only weather layer available at this time, and it is experimental.
Show or hide the rain radar
- Open the map.
- On regular-width iPad layouts and Mac, open Map from the main navigation.
- On iPhone and compact iPad layouts, open the map from the station picker or a Station Map card.
- Open Weather Layer.
- Choose Rain Radar to show the overlay, or None to return to the base map.
Rain Radar is on by default. The choice also applies to Station Map cards on the Real Time dashboard.
What the layer shows
The overlay is the latest radar composite from RainViewer, refreshed about every 10 minutes while the map is shown. Radar imagery appears only where RainViewer has radar coverage. Outside covered areas, the map shows no overlay even when Rain Radar is selected. The map credits the source with a Rain Radar: RainViewer attribution that links to RainViewer.
The weather layer is independent from Station Sources: saved, public-network, and METAR markers stay visible over the overlay. Use Map Style when a different base map makes the overlay easier to read.
See the Map reference for the other map controls.
