Optimize station storage
Optimize station storage
Use Optimize Storage to reorganize a station’s .wfdb database so it takes less space. Stored observations and summaries are kept.
Optimization rewrites the database in the current format. Older versions of Weather Fusion can no longer open the optimized database, and backups created after optimization use the same format. Create a backup first when the database may still need to open on a device that runs an older version. See Back up station data.
Optimize the selected station
- On iPhone and iPad, open Settings › Manage Data, then choose Optimize Storage….
- On Mac, choose Data › Optimize Storage…. The Data Inspector also offers Optimize Storage for the selected station.
Confirm the request, then keep Weather Fusion open until optimization finishes. Optimization Complete reports the space saved. Database size and WAL size in Manage Data show the new footprint.
If optimization does not finish
| Message | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Not Enough Storage | The device lacks free space for the rewritten copy | Free up space and try again. The database has not been changed. |
| Optimization Cancelled | The operation stopped before completion | Run it again later. The database has not been changed. |
| Couldn’t Optimize Storage | Optimization did not finish | Try again later. |
| Database Recovery Needed | The rewritten copy could not replace the original | The original database copy is retained. Contact support before making further changes. |
See Backups and iCloud Sync for how optimization affects backups and older app versions.
